~Design Inspiration~

Have you ever come across a photo of a room and immediately felt as if you could live there? While spending some time on Pinterest this weekend, I came across several pins of a home that just spoke to me. They were from Southern Lady's website and an article that featured the home of Interior Designer, Anita Rankin.

I was drawn to the rich colors and the mix of fabrics and patterns...not to mention the pops of leopard print, in each room.

Rankin Design Bedroom

Through her design philosophy, this lovely lady felt like a kindred spirit. She believes in surrounding herself with beautiful things; and actually using them as a part of everyday living.

Rankin Design

There is something very elegant and gracious about her home; yet, it's still very warm and inviting. It exudes that Southern charm. I love the ferns and lanterns at the front entry.

Rankin Design Kitchen

I know the trend has been leaning to light and bright; but, I still love my persimmon red kitchen, the light, natural maple cabinets (rustic and unfinished), and the pot rack with the copper pots. When I saw this kitchen, I knew I would not be painting any time soon. Each time I've tried moving toward a more neutral palette, my family nixes the plan. I guess we just love color! In fact, when we have guests, the first thing that we are complimented on is the warm color palette.

What about you? Have you ever seen a photo of a home or room that just captured your attention? I'd love to hear from you!

Thanks so much for taking the time to stop by; and have a great day!

  1. I agree with you Shenita...that is gorgeous!! I really think the all white thing is kind of a "palate cleansing" phase and everyone will be painting with color again soon. I sure love the way she layered the rugs in the living room. I've been thinking about doing something similar.

  2. Oh my, this is my taste also. I love rich tapestry prints, warm colors and eclectic assortment of furniture pieces. Yes, I could move into this space and be so at home. My foyer is red and it sets the stage for those accents throughout my house. Love it, and thanks for taking inside this lovely and inviting home. Can't wait to see your in glossy print.

  5. Wow that is a fabulous home- what a great decorator she is! I love the mix of leopard print too. I really want to add some animal print in my living room. I just have to find something and do it!! That kitchen photo is interesting. I like how the wall above the sink was created to enjoy looking at almost as though there was a window there. I've seen a few homes that realy impress me in magazines and that I know I could be happy living in them. I get several magazines that I enjoy for that reason. Now I need the wallet to go with my tastes!!

  12. Well, for a minute there I thought I was in your beautiful home!....oh I love those gorgeous rooms...and Southern Lady magazines are one of my favorites....Yes, the trend is light and bright, but there is something very light and bright about these rooms too....they are exquisite and perfectly designed...you just want to walk in each room that envelopes you with such warmth!....

  14. One of many things I love about homes in the South is that so many of them are built with such generously-proportioned entries! Those here tend to be on the smallish side which doesn't leave a lot of room for grand embellishment. I've been hinting to my husband how much I would love to alter the facade of our home on the north side. I think I might be wearing him down!

This home is gorgeous, and I know you would love living there! I often see rooms or whole houses in magazines, books, or online that I really FEEL. I can automatically feel myself cooking in a certain kitchen or greeting guests at a certain doorway or trimming a tree in a certain hallway. It's all about the FEELING.

  19. Those rooms do look like you Shenita. They are all lovely. I'm still with you on color ~ I have a more neutral palette in my family room ~ green and beige, but the room I get compliments on every time is my living room with the red couch and green rug and yellow chairs. Lots of color! Love it.

  20. The neutral palette remains on trend, but color never goes out of style! Our dining room is painted in our go-to color, Sherwin Williams Fired Brick, and I just can't bring myself to change it. I contemplated a neutral color for the walls, and have not ruled it out, but ther is no "I can't wait to get the color on the walls" color loving feeling yet. I believe we all have a signature color or decor style. Your beautiful home definitely defines your personal decor style and tastes well.

  26. Yes! Yes! Yes! Love it so, I hope the neutral look is temporary. I never went neutral and don't believe I ever will.

  27. Oh yes I do Shenita! This designer sure is speaking to me now, lovely rooms and I can’t get past the gorgeous kitchen!

  28. Shenita,
While on a Fall Parade of Homes Tour many years ago, the same thing happened to me.
Although we didn't purchase the featured home. . .
I did capture the essence of the Old World Decor for our 1970's Ranch Style Home.
Much like you, I LOVE color!!! Golds, reds, sage greens speak to my inner soul.
I, do embrace some of the softer hues for our guest room, as well.
We're beginning an update for our Entry Hall and I've chosen a blend of Old World
and some of the softer hues of taupe.
Thank you for reminding us that our homes are a reflection of who we are!!!
    Color. . .it's a beautiful thing!!!
    Fondly,
    Pat
