Daydreaming of Spring

Happy Tuesday, everyone! It is so hard to believe that it is January here. It was a breezy, 75 degrees today. Funny thing is...this time, last year, the Super Bowl was here; and we were under a foot of ice and snow! Lol! What a difference a year makes!! Temperatures like this have me wishing for those spring days, enjoying the backyard. As a Louisiana girl, I have always had a fondness for New Orleans courtyards. The back of our home forms a C-shape, perfect for a courtyard, enclosed on 3 sides. I constantly add photos to my inspiration files, on my laptop, like this:

I enjoy spending these winter months planning my gardens for spring, and saving inspiration photos like these. Even though we're in the midst of winter, I'm so looking forward to the beautiful spring days that we get, before the searing heat of summer sets in.  Do you enjoy outdoor living and gardening, as well? I'd love to hear from you!!

Have a great day!

  3. I'm right there with you on the "spring dream." Although, I'm ready for spring because our winter has been so boring! I love snow and we've only seen it a few times this year. Crazy!! So, if isn't going to snow, bring on the sun! You are lucky to have the 75 degrees. We are holding steady at 58! See?? So boring!

Have a fabulous rest of the week!

  4. Great ideas for a courtyard. I have a small flower garden and flowers planted around my house and garage. Each year I try to plant at least one new perennial. There were only some peonies and day lilies when I moved here.

  5. .You have me wanting to see your beautiful patio and gardens! I LOVE Spring and Summer and all it means: being outside most of the time, eating outdoors and NOT being cooped up in the house. Though I have to say, this has been a FABULOUS winter with all the MILD temps! XO, Pinky

  8. Love those pictures! I need some inspiration for our Breakfast Porch. I may be calling on you for some help. I would love to be a gardner, but I don't know if there is any hope. :)

  9. Those are certainly wonderful inspiration photos! I love courtyards too, but out here in the woods I'm not going to be having one, lol. It is so warm here and barely any snow. It feels not quite right for sure. I love when the leaves are on the trees, but there is a lot more work that comes with it. I do look forward to it, though. Thanks for stopping by:-)

  10. It has been warm here too (South MS) and I am SO ready to get out in the garden. I've been out pruning trees and bushes and getting flower beds ready :) Your inspiration pics are awesome....I've really got the fever now, lol.

  11. After freezing for a few weeks, we have had spring-like weather here too, and I'm loving it! I'm a big fan of courtyards too. I'm trying to convince my husband to build a little fire-pit to sit by on these pleasantly cool evenings. I love the outdoor fireplace in your first image! That would be a dream!!

  13. The only problem with this crazy weather is everyone in my house is sick! It was in the low 40's two days ago and will be in the mid 60's today! Ugh!!
I just noticed all of the new pretties in your Etsy. I'm going back now to browse some more!!

  14. Shenita, beautiful pictures! We are also hoping this will be the year we start building our backyard outdoor space. We want to put in an outdoor kitchen, sitting area, shed and if I get really, really lucky, a pool. LOL
We will see what 2012 brings our way. Thank you for sharing such beautiful inspiration!

  15. Spring will be here before you know it! That's nice how your house is set-up like that. I agree, a courtyard style design would be perfect. All of those inspiration pics are lovely. Hard to believe that it is February now. It's warm here too.

  17. Ahhhhhh, what beautiful inspirational pics, Shenita! I would be perfectly happy sitting in any one of those gorgeos spaces! I wish we could enjoy our outdoor area more during the summer than we currently do ... the bugs are pretty bad here in SC on a summer's evening ... at least we have the screened in porch to enjoy! I can't wait for Spring!!!!

  25. Shenita, so funny that you mentioned changing your veggie tray for the Super Bowl because I ran into friends coming out of Costco with veggies for Sunday and I said they needed to check my blog and see the veggie presentation for Sunday.

  26. Shenita, this post makes me want to return to New Orleans. We haven't been there since the hurricane. I have to add that our all time favorite restaurant is Broussard's on Conti Street. Oh, what fun it would be to sit out on their gorgeous patio for a while! Gorgeous post! Thanks, Helen

  27. Hi Shenita, what beautiful pictures. Hard to believe that it is winter. We normally have lots of snow here in Canada but this winter (so far) we have had warmer than normal temperatures. I'm not complaining, LOL Have a wonderful weekend. Hugs, Chris

  28. Those pictures make me want to head straight to the nursery and pick up some bedding plants.
We have stayed at the Ritz in NOLA, the courtyard is just beautiful.
Really you don't have to walk far and peek in iron gates to see lots of secret gardens.
We were to get rain today, so we canceled our plans... The sun is out! ugh!
Hope you have a fantasic weekend,
    Melissa

  29. Good morning, I agree it really hasn't felt like "winter" and I hope we get a lot more rain before summer. I can't wait until you show us your courtyard. We have a courtyard at our house in OK. Maybe we should swap ideas. I'll be going through your neck of the woods this morning. I'm going to Lady Butterbug to get some Annie Sloan paint for my kitchen cabinets. My tile for the backsplash will be installed on the 20th and I want to finish the cabinets before then. But , with tax season here I'm working every day now, so we'll see. Ooh, I think The Pantry is calling my name for lunch. lol

    Blessings :)

  30. Shenita, I can kill a plastic plant!!! I don't do gardens, and hubby doesn't even want me in the veggie garden, which is fine with me! Soooo, not much planning of gardens here, but I am ready for warmer weather. Our bradford pears along the drive-way actually have blooms on them! Along with some of our shrubs. We have patches of green grass popping up, and those wild onion things that pop up in the spring all over the yards. This is not good, it is Feb 5th!!!! We have had no winter, and I am afraid the farmer's need more cold weather than we have had to kill off the insects and things.
